Strengthening our presence in Northern Ireland

We have strengthened our presence in Northern Ireland by contracting a dedicated Northern Ireland Manager, Joanne McDowell.

Joanne, who is contracted on a part-time basis, will be responsible for building public trust and confidence in charitable organisations and raising our profile in Northern Ireland. She will develop relationships with charities and sector bodies to maintain high standards of fundraising and will represent us at conferences and meetings.

This new contract is part of our ongoing commitment to working collaboratively with charities in Northern Ireland. There are nearly 100 organisations already registered with us in Northern Ireland, and Joanne’s work will help build on this.

Joanne will be our second representative in Northern Ireland, alongside Walter Rader OBE, our board member for Northern Ireland.

Joanne has an extensive background working with the charitable and voluntary sector having spent 20 years at the then Big Lottery Fund where she was Northern Ireland Director.

Joanne McDowell said “The Fundraising Regulator is doing fantastic work maintaining best practice in fundraising and increasing public confidence in charities. I’m thrilled to be joining the team as it grows its presence in Northern Ireland and can’t wait to start working with charities right across Northern Ireland and with a range of stakeholders.”

Gerald Oppenheim, Chief Executive of the Fundraising Regulator, said “Joanne is an excellent addition to our team in Northern Ireland and brings a wealth of sector knowledge and understanding with her. Joanne’s contract is an important step in our commitment to strengthen our team in Northern Ireland and work with charities to ensure their fundraising continues to be carried out to high standards.”
