To help fundraisers get ready for the new Code of Fundraising Practice (the code), which comes into effect on 1 November 2025, we will be publishing a series of practical guides for fundraisers.

We have published three new guides on:

All our guides give practical advice and tips for meeting the new code and include links to relevant code rules, and trusted sources of information and good practice. The guides are advisory and should be used alongside the code when it comes into force later this year.

Charity trustees, fundraising staff and third-party fundraisers should use the guides to help them make sure their fundraising meets the requirements of the code. The guides may also be of interest to donors and ‘in-aid-of’ fundraising volunteers who want to know more about good fundraising practice.

Fundraising events

This guide will help you plan and deliver fundraising events, including challenge events and those held abroad. It includes information on carrying out risk assessments, safeguarding, meeting health and safety requirements, and making sure you have appropriate agreements, permissions and insurance in place. Whether you’re hiring a venue, running a hybrid event, working with a commercial partner or delivering an event outdoors in a public or private space, this guide will help make sure you comply with the code.

Fundraising on social media

This guide will help you plan and deliver fundraising on social media. It includes details about providing clear and accurate information, online safety and wellbeing, hybrid fundraising events, and advertising. It also sets out what to consider when working with social media influencers, third-party fundraisers, and engaging with ‘in-aid-of’ fundraising volunteers on social media.

Online gaming and fundraising

This guide outlines how to meet the code requirements when playing online video games to fundraise. It explains how to distinguish between ‘in-aid-of’ and ‘on-behalf-of’ online gaming fundraising volunteers, working with commercial partners, online safety and wellbeing, and what to consider when offering incentives or rewards to gamers or donors. It also signposts relevant gambling legislation for activities where that might apply.

Support during the transition to new code

All our guides offer topic specific advice and tips for putting the new code into practice. They are designed to help you make sure your fundraising activity continues to meet the high standards the public expects under the new code. While advisory, the extent to which the guides are followed may be considered if a potential breach of the code is investigated by us.

In the run up to the new code coming into force on 1 November 2025, we also encourage all fundraising organisations to:

  • read the new code and accompanying code support guides on fundraising decisions, due diligence and fundraising, and monitoring fundraising partnerships
  • update internal policies, procedures and training materials where relevant
  • share the new code and supporting documentation with trustees, and relevant staff and third-party fundraisers; and
  • get in touch via the Code Advice Service if you have any questions.

We will publish more guides throughout the year to help fundraisers prepare for the new code coming into effect on 1 November 2025. Sign up to our newsletter to keep up to date on this and other important information from us.
