Why we use AI
At the Fundraising Regulator we recognise the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the charitable fundraising sector.
AI can also help us work more efficiently and develop innovative approaches to carrying out our work.
How we use AI
We only use established AI tools, which are tested through pilots, before approving their use by trained colleagues. We are committed to protecting data and follow our privacy policy, and will not use information about protected characteristics or other sensitive data in AI tools. Any work produced with AI will be reviewed and approved by an authorised staff member to ensure there is a high level of human oversight and control. We will also consider ethical and environmental issues, including energy use, potential bias, and social concerns, to make sure our use of AI aligns with the values of our organisation.
What we use AI for
We may use AI in multiple ways to improve our ability to achieve our aims as a regulator. This could include using AI to:
- Spot trends and themes in the sector related to compliance with the code
- Analyse how to improve our services
- Help us to communicate and engage more effectively with the sector and the public
- Help us to improve efficiency in our day-to-day work
Whenever we decide to use an AI tool, we will check it is the best option to help with what we want to do, and make sure it fits with our strategy and remit. Our use of AI will change as the technology develops, and we will update this statement accordingly. We will seek to make use of the advantages AI can bring but will always do so with care.
