Advice for charities affected by the Beacon cyber security incident

At the beginning of August Beacon CRM contacted the many charities who held data with them, informing them that their data had likely been downloaded by a third party as part of a cybersecurity incident.

Beacon has advised all its customers affected to report the incident to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), as have the Charity Commission for England and Wales

Given the severity of the breach the Fundraising Regulator is advising charities, who have not already done so, to submit a report to them via the self-reporting pathway, which you can find here. If charities have already reported to the ICO and received a response, they should submit that response along with the self report.

Charities can also contact our Casework team directly on 0300 999 3407 if they would like to discuss this with them in more detail.
